Public
Meeting for Democracy & Peace in Nepal
On
6th November 2005 (New York): A grand Public
Meeting for Democracy & Peace in Nepal was
organized by Alliance for Democracy and Human Rights in Nepal, USA, with
active participation of members
of Nepali Diaspora currently residing in New York and friends of Nepal
at 75-15 Woodside ,Queens, New York. The Alliance
has been persistently involved in the defense of human rights and
consolidation of democracy in Nepal since its inception in 1989 and also
played a vital role in the restoration of democracy in 1990 popular
movement.
The
objective of the public meeting was to express solidarity with the
ongoing Citizens’ Movement for Democracy and Peace in Nepal, and to
foster empowerment of the Nepali citizens through greater awareness
about their rights and the irrelevance of autocratic reign in Nepal that
has been solidified by recent anti-people actions by King Gyanendra’s
regime.
The
meeting was attended by more than 100 participants, mostly Nepali
citizens residing in New York.
The program included pro-democracy poetry recitals by Deepak Khadka, Sailesh Shrestha, Binod Roka and Govinda Koirala. A pro-democracy song was also sung by Mridula Koirala. The event also featured video presentations of Citizens’ Meeting in Basantapur, the ongoing political agitations in Kathmandu (presented by
www.samudaya.org, which is banned in Nepal) and of poetry recitals by a popular “movement [citizens’] poet,” Arjun Parajuli. Mr. Parajuli’s poetry was enjoyed immensely by the crowd.Speaking
at the event, Krishna Pahadi, a leading member of the Citizens’
Movement in Nepal and a prominent rights activist, expressed sincere
belief that the irrelevance of monarchy was being recognized even at the
grass roots level in Nepal now, and that the King’s regime is sowing
seeds of its’ own demise by imposing upon the people it’s hard line
stance against democratic institutions in Nepal. He asked the Nepali
diaspora in New York to extend moral support to the Citizens’
Movement. He said that the real solution to the crisis that the country
is embroiled in now can only be resolved through increased genuine
empowerment of the people, which can be guaranteed only in a democratic
republic, and not through strengthening of the tyrannical regime.
President
Sanjaya Parajuli and General Secretary Anil J. Shahi of Alliance for
Democracy & Human Rights in Nepal delivered welcome speech and vote
of thanks respectively. The meeting was moderated by Mrs. Mridula
Koirala , Chairperson of the Alliance.

Campaign for the restoration of Democracy & Human Rights in Nepal.
August 24, 2005
Alliance for Democracy and Human Rights in Nepal, USA (Alliance) is proudly announcing its membership with Human Rights Campaign-Nepal, which was initiated in the joint collaboration of 25 human rights organizations to safeguard human rights and democracy in the wake of the brutal royal take over on February 1, 2005 in Nepal.
Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that was registered in New York State in 1989 in order to support the democratic movement in Nepal. It remained as a watchdog group for democracy and human rights in Nepal and played a vital role in the restoration of democracy in 1990 popular movement. The organization has been persistently involved in the defense of human rights and consolidation of democracy in Nepal since its inception.
We Alliance and The Defend for Human Rights Campaign-Nepal share the view that the king's move of February 1 as a fraud on the Constitution and pledges to spearhead vigorous campaign to defend human rights and democracy in Nepal. At this time when our fellow countrymen and women are denied their fundamental rights of _expression and are subjected to widespread human rights abuse, we stand united in solidarity with the majority of the Nepalese citizenry who has faith in participatory democracy, the rule of law, the sanctity of fundamental human rights, and a pluralistic Nepalese society.
Therefore, we believe that by joining hands collectively will strengthen democracy and pave a way towards safeguarding Human Rights, freedoms of press, speech and _expression and civil liberties in Nepal.

Namaste!
Children of Nepal suffer malnutrition, child labor, illiteracy and trafficking. One of the most appalling human rights violations caused by the socio-stratifications of a traditional society that has been sustained by the feudal socio-political system.
